The Memorial is within St John's Church, St John's Square, Wolverhampton. WV2 1DT.

The Memorial is made of marble and is inscribed with names of the men of the parish who were killed during the Great War. The memorial bears the following inscriptions.

" In reverent gratitude to God for peace and victory after the Great War 1914-1919 and in special remembrance of the men of this parish who made the supreme sacrifice"

"These Gave Their Lives In Order That The Nation May Live."

ARMSTRONG,WALTER JAMES Private 9657
1st Bn South Staffordshire Regiment
Walter Armstrong joined the South Staffords in August 1914 at Wolverhampton. He was a married man and lived with his wife Charlotte and sons Andrew, Walter and Leonard at King Edward’s Row, off Pounteney Street in the town and had worked at the Chillington Edge Tool Works before joining the regiment. Walter was posted to the 1st Battalion and was reported as wounded and missing following the attack on the Pope’s Nose Redoubt near Cite St Elie on 25 September 1915. Sadly, Charlotte later received notification that her husband had been in fact killed in action. Walter Armstrong has no known grave and is remembered on the Loos Memorial. Panel 73 to 76.
