70th Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment
Born 21st February 1924 in Wolverhampton son of Herbert Henry and Emily Miriam Arnold, of Fallings Park. In 1939 they were living along with Stanley's older brother Harry and younger brother George at 344 Cannock Road, Wolverhampton; Stanley was employed as an apprentice tool maker.
Stanley died of bronchopneumonia in Winchester Emergency hospital 31st October 1942 aged 18.

Beebee, John Howard Private 14494831
2nd Bn. Gloucestershire Regiment
Born 1st June 1926 in Wolverhampton son of John Howard and Lilian Gertrude Beebee. In 1939 they were living at 395 Cannock Road, Wolverhampton along with John's older sisters Lilian and Joan.
The 2nd Bn. Gloucestershire Regiment's last significant action of the war came on 12th April, when it assaulted across the River Ijssel at Arnhem, John died of wounds received in this action 15th April 1945 aged 18.

Bullock, George Frederick FX92505 Naval Airman 1st Class
H.M.S. Blackcap Royal Navy.
George was born 22nd January 1916 in Wolverhampton son of Samuel and Alice Rose Bullock. In 1921 they were living at 37 Dark Street, Heath Town along with George's older siblings Mariam, Joseph, and Samuel and younger sister Rose. Also living there were George's cousin John Rowley and Aunt Olive Bullock.
George's father died in 1931.
George married Evelyn Freda Genner June 1939 in Wolverhampton, they lived at 1 Mount Rd, Willenhall; George was employed as a 'viewer on munitions'.
George was killed in a road traffic accident along with five other service personnel at Appleton, near Warrington, Lancashire 31st May 1943.

Busby Charles Ordinary Seaman C/SSX 30870
H.M.S. Keith Royal Navy.
Charles was born 8th January 1921 in Wolverhampton son of Charles Henry and Martha Busby. In 1921 they were living at Canal Side, Cannock Road, Wolverhampton. Charles' father was employed as a railway shunter for the Great Western Railway company.
On 25th June 1937 Charles joined the Great Western Railway company as a uniformed staff member. In 1939 his parents’ home was 101 Goodyear Avenue, Wolverhampton.
Killed in action 23rd May 1940 aged 19. On 10th May 1940, the Germans launched their invasion of France and the Low Countries. On 12th May, H.M.S. Keith sailed to the Hook of Holland in the Netherlands to evacuate Allied troops. On 21st May, H.M.S. Keith was one of three destroyers that evacuated 468 civilians from France. Two days later the ship was in Boulogne-sur-Mer, loading British troops to be evacuated, when she was attacked by German troops. She was hit by a mortar bomb and machine gun fire that killed her captain and wounded many others; Charles was killed during this action.

Davies, James Cyril Corporal 4914221
2nd (Airborne) Bn. South Staffordshire Regiment
Born June 1917 in Wolverhampton, son of Charles Alfred and Mary Ann Davies. In 1921 they were living at 25, Brown Street, Wolverhampton along with James's younger brother John, maternal grandparents John and Susannah Banks, his aunt May Banks Willocks, maternal great grandmother Jane Spittle, and his great uncle Alfred Spittle.
By 1939 James' family were living at 4 Norbury Road, Wolverhampton.
James was killed in action 9th July 1943 aged 26.

In November 1941 the 2nd South Staffordshire Regiment was converted to a glider infantry role, serving as part of the 1st Airlanding Brigade in the 1st Airborne Division.
Operation Husky the invasion of Sicily - overnight on the 9th/10th July 1943, the 1st Air Landing Brigade’s 2,000 soldiers were towed in over 144 gliders by 109 American C-47 Dakotas and 35 RAF tugs. Stormy weather and devastating fire from both the enemy and the allied navies dispersed the fly-in, which was conducted by inexperienced American air crews. 78 gliders landed in the sea while the remainder crash-landed across miles of rugged Sicilian countryside.
Determined isolated groups continued with the mission. One platoon of the South Staffords captured the Ponte Grande bridge, which was held, reinforced by stragglers, until the following day.
At some point during the invasion James was sadly killed.

Dunn Daniel John Craftsman 4619531
Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Daniel was born 4th January 1923 in Wolverhampton son of Daniel and Charlotte Dunn. In 1939 they were living at 26 Smestow Street, Springfields, Wolverhampton along with Daniel's maternal grandmother Sophia Cox.
Daniel was employed as a typewriter mechanic.
Daniel married Elizabeth Garwood March 1944 in Wolverhampton.
Daniel fell from a military motorcycle on a public highway while engaged in his military duties 23rd April 1944. He fractured his spine and severed his spinal cord.
Daniel died 30 December 1944 aged 21 in The County Hospital Orpington, Kent of septicaemia due to trophic ulceration of his back.

Eastaugh Frederick Gunner 780837

Frederick was born March 1906 in Durham son of Samuel and Anne Eastaugh. In 1911 they were living at 50 Castelreagh Street, New Silksworth, Sunderland along with Fredrick's older siblings William, James and Florence, his father was employed as a miner. Fredrick's mother died in 1915 aged 39. By 1921 Frederick remained living with his father at 50 Castelreagh Street, along with his sister Florence, he was employed as a miner.
Frederick married Freda Ellen Cartwright of Heath Town, December 1936 in Wolverhampton. By 1939 they were living at No 6 North Street, Wednesfield, Frederick was a regular soldier. They had a son Michael born 2nd November 1939.
On the 27 March 1940 Frederick was in No. 8 casualty clearing station and reported to be dangerously ill. He died 29th March 1940 aged 33.

Elwell Reginald Lance Serjeant 5120812
8th Bn. The Parachute Regiment, A.A.C.
Reginald was born 16th January 1911 in Wolverhampton son of Thomas and Nellie Elwell; he married Ada Palmer December 1933 in Wolverhampton. In 1939 Reginald and Ada were living with Reginald's parents at 38 Prestwood Rd, Wolverhampton, Reginald was employed as a painter.
Killed 13th June 1943 aged 32 during exercise 'Bluebell' in Fife, Scotland, when his stick of parachutists had accidentally jumped over the sea and seven out of the eight men had drowned, it was reported that the sun had shone on the green light for GO.

Trooper 7938705 4th Queen's Own Hussars Royal Armoured Corps.
Lionel was born 13th January 1923 in Wolverhampton son of Harry and Edith Fry, Lionel's father died in 1928. In 1939 they were living at 103 Heath Street, Wolverhampton with Edith's mother, sister, and brother.
Lionel was employed as a porter at a furnishing department.
Lionel married Eunice Joan Savage of Low Hill, June 1941 in Wolverhampton.
Killed in action 4th July 1942 aged 19.

John was born December 1904 in Wolverhampton son of William and Maria Harris. In 1911 they were living at 37 Hargreaves Street, Wolverhampton along with John's older brothers William and Edward and younger sister Maria.
By 1921 John was living with his mother, brothers and sister at 20 Field Street, Wolverhampton. John was employed as an 'iron stamper' at Bayliss Jones Bayliss, Iron Foundry.
John married Gladys May Hodgetts September 1926 in Wolverhampton, by 1939 they were living at 59 Rowlands Avenue, Deans Road. John was now employed as an 'electrical light attendant' for Wolverhampton Corporation Lighting Department.
John died 24th April 1944 aged 39 at the Royal Hospital Wolverhampton of anaemia and pyelonephritis (kidney infection).

Haynes, Charles Anthony Second Radio Officer
S.S. Susan Maersk (Belfast) Merchant Navy.
Born 16th January 1922 in Wolverhampton son of Harry Charles and Mildred Sarah Haynes. In 1939 they were living at 485 Cannock Road, Wolverhampton, Charles was employed as a steelworks clerk.
Charles was killed in action 13th June 1941 aged 19 when his ship was torpedoed at 01.22 hours by U-553 about 370 miles north-northeast of the Azores. The ship was hit by a single torpedo underneath the bridge and sank within 90 seconds. The crew of 24 men were all lost.

Hollowood John Amos Cadet 104
1526 Squadron, Air Training Corps.
John was born 4th November 1925 in Wolverhampton son of William Isaac and Alice Hollowood. In 1939 John was living with his father and older brother Joseph at 367 Willenhall Road, he was still attending school.
John was injured when the Master EM262 training aircraft in which he was flying crashed flying out of RAF Shobden, Herefordshire on 6th September 1943, he died three days later from his injuries, the pilot survived.
Died 9th September 1943 aged 17.

Lawley Joseph William Lance Corporal 1516891
6th Bn. Cheshire Regiment.
Joseph was born 21st August 1919 in Wolverhampton son of Clarence and Esther Anne Lawley. In 1921 they were living as boarders along with Joseph's older sister Rosina at 25 New Street, Heath Town; the householders were John and Margaret Hopwood. Joseph's father died in 1923.
In 1939 Joseph was living at 2 Prestwood Road, Wolverhampton with his widowed mother, sister Rosina and younger sister Kathleen, he was employed as brewery drayman at Springfield brewery.
Joseph married Iris May Hodson October 1940 in Wolverhampton.
The 6th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment were part of the 56th (London) Division during the Gothic Line offensive in Italy, during the autumn of 1944.
Joseph was wounded in action 19th September 1944 and died of his wounds 15th April 1945 aged 25.

Norman was born 17th August 1911 in Wolverhampton son of William and Ellen Lerigo. In 1921 they were living at 18, Wood Street, Park Village, Heath Town along with Norman's older siblings Noel and Ivy and younger sister Doris.
By 1939 they were living at 'Glen Vale' Cannock Road, Wolverhampton along with Norman's younger siblings Doris, Sybil, and Eric; Norman was employed as an insurance agent.
Norman married Ruby Lilian Ainsbury Carter April 1943 in Dudley. He enlisted into the RAF at Padgate sometime after October 1942.
Killed in action 25th February 1944 aged 33 when the Lancaster bomber (2217448) in which he was flying was lost during a raid on ball bearing factories at Schweinfurt.
At the time of his death, he and Ruby were living at 12 Park-Head Road Dudley.
