Wolverhampton Postal Workers Memorial

 


A bronze memorial tablet inscribed with the words
'Erected to the memory of the members of our staff who fell in the European War,1914-1919'

The memorial was unveiled 5th June 1922 by Lieutenant-Colonel T.F. Waterhouse D.S.O,the memorial was positioned in the front general office of the Wolverhampton Head Post Office.Information taken from Express & Star 1922

Born in 1893 in Tipton son of Alfred Henry and Annie Bott, baptised 5th February 1893 at St. Martin's, Church, Tipton. In 1901 they were living at 370 Whitehall Road, Great Bridge, West Bromwich along with Alfred's older sister Esther and younger sisters Beatrice and Nellie; Alfred's father was employed as a foreman builder. By 1911 the family remained living at 370 Whitehall Road but by then Alfred had moved to Wolverhampton as he was employed by the Post Office, the London Gazette dated 1st April 1910 reports Alfred being appointed a temporary assistant postman 23rd March 1910. At the time of Alfred's death his pension record reports that his mother was living at 30 Argyle Road Blakenhall Alfred left her £128 in his will.
Killed in action 28th November 1917.
